Design complex, specialised environments and work confidently across multiple sectors including retail, workplace, hospitality, aged care and wellness.

Become a Commercial Interior Designer

Build on your design foundations and apply them to complex, real-world briefs that demand dynamic and innovative solutions across a broader range of sectors. As you progress, you’ll develop professional research skills, manage budgets and project timelines, and produce advanced specifications and documentation, skills that are highly valued across the industry.

Present your design proposals using the latest, in-demand 2D and 3D modelling software, and graduate with a portfolio featuring a broad range of specialised projects, proof of the capability, versatility and confidence you need to pitch ideas and lead in the industry.

What you’ll learn

Design complex residential & commercial projects

Design multi-residential developments, joinery pieces and large-scale commercial interiors including retail, office, hospitality and finally hotels where you will collaborate as part of a design team, just as you would in a professional studio.

Manage clients, projects and budgets

Manage projects, project procurement and deadlines, budgets and sophisticated client briefs, and impress potential employers with your ability to professionally pitch your ideas, both visually and verbally, with confidence and polish that set you apart.

Specialise and tailor your portfolio

For your final project, follow your passion. Write your own brief, find your own site, and explore the area of interiors you’re most drawn to, mentored by an industry professional every step of the way. It’s your chance to create a standout portfolio that reflects your unique design style.

Frequently asked questions

How does an Advanced Diploma compare to a Bachelor Degree?

The Advanced Diploma is a practical, work-ready qualification. It gets you into industry faster than a degree, with the same hands-on, industry-led approach we apply to all of our courses. If you have your heart set on a degree, you’re not locked out: Advanced Diploma graduates can credit 18 months towards a BA (Hons) Interior Architecture at UNSW, our formal degree partner, so you can start working in the industry straight away while completing your degree part time.

What's the difference between this course and the Diploma?

You learn in a small, tight-knit group, challenged by large scale commercial projects with specialist mentoring, detailed documentation, procurement and industry standard software.

For your final assessment you’ll choose your own client project and site, enabling you to tailor your portfolio to your areas of interest.

Is interior design a good career?

Yes. It’s a genuinely varied career, with our graduates working across residential, retail, workplace, hospitality, aged care, education and wellness design, among other sectors. The Advanced Diploma is a nationally recognised qualification (RTO 91446), accredited by ASQA and recognised by the Design Institute of Australia, so you graduate with a credential the industry knows and trusts.

What type of role could I get at the end of this course?

You’ll graduate ready to work as a commercial Interior Designer across sectors including residential, retail, workplace, hospitality, and aged care and wellness, managing complex client projects, budgets and specifications, or take that same skill set into running your own design business.
