This practical course is designed for students and professionals in the design and construction industries who want to upskill and produce accurate, industry-standard residential documentation packages for residential projects, including plans, elevations, sections, and joinery details.

What is the cost?
You can pay for this course in full or by instalments.
- Pay in total: $1,195 (GST free)
- Or pay by instalment: $395 deposit followed by 2 x $400 instalments (GST free)
- A 2% PayPal processing fee will be applied at checkout (inc GST).
Our instalment plans are provided through a third party provider. Ezidebit is available to domestic students or international students with an Australian bank account. After your deposit is received, we will send you via email a direct debit request form for Ezidebit showing your instalment due dates. You can select to pay your instalment payments by Australian bank account or Australian credit card.
The following transaction fees are applied from Ezidebit:
- A transaction fee of $2.38 applies to payments from a bank account
- A transaction fee of 2.95% applies for Mastercard and Visa payments (minimum $1.96)
- A transaction fee of 4.4% applies for Diners and American Express payments (minimum $1.96)
- A failed payment fee of $21.90 if your transaction is unsuccessful
What does the course cover?
This course introduces the fundamentals of AutoCAD alongside essential knowledge of residential construction, project workflows, the NCC and Australian Standards.
You’ll develop a technical understanding of how interior projects are documented, coordinated and delivered in professional practice and that meet industry expectations.
Through a real-world residential project, you’ll learn how to clearly communicate design intent, ensure compliance, and prepare an industry‑standard documentation package including plans, elevations, joinery details and schedules used across interior design, architecture and construction environments.
Whilst it’s desirable to have a basic understanding of technical drawing, it’s not essential. Our dedicated Educators will introduce you to the software step by step, starting with the basics.
Is this course accredited?
On completion of this course you’ll receive a Statement of Attainment from Sydney Design School (RTO 91446) detailing the competency you have achieved.
AutoCAD – MSFID5025 Develop residential interior design project documentation
This vocational short course is written and developed by industry professionals to ensure our students study the most relevant and current content. The competency in this course is accredited by the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA), the national regulator for Australia’s vocational education and training sector.
You can credit this competency towards the Diploma of Interior Design or Advanced Diploma of Interior Design.
What equipment and software do I need?
- A powerful laptop or desktop computer with a dedicated graphics card. Please see our Computer Requirements page for more detail
- Microsoft Office
- A three button, scroll wheel mouse
- A 2-4TB external hard drive
You will download a free student subscription to AutoCAD to complete the course. Access to this subscription can be gained using your course confirmation.
Is this right for me?
Whilst it’s desirable to have a basic understanding of technical drawing, it’s not essential. Our dedicated Educators will introduce you to the software step by step, starting with the basics. This course has been designed for Interior Decorators and Designers, Builders, Landscape Architects, students studying architecture or interiors and those working in the construction industry. If you are an Architect or Draftsperson this course is only suitable for those with no software experience.
