What do you love about being an Interior Designer?
“For me, the driving force is the ability to change someone else’s moment, day or life. I believe our immediate environment has a massive effect on our psyche, both short and long term, consciously and subconsciously. I love that being a Designer offers the ability to not only be a problem solver for obvious issues or objectives that the client can see, but also play the role of the visionary who can find solutions for a better way in the future. I love that there are so many levels to design. I am – work aside – truly obsessed with anything to do with interiors, furniture, art, design and architecture. It’s what I spend my spare time immersed in anyway so making that my career gives me plenty of joy.”

What does a typical day look like?
“I open my eyes, then open Instagram. I’m pretty addicted and I find it’s a great inspirational tool and a great way to stay connected with the design industry. From there, there really is no typical day. I am usually working on a number of projects at once, sometimes across different disciplines and nearly always at different stages so a day contains research, client meetings, supplier meetings, supplier emails, writing proposals, CAD work, site meetings and tradie meetings. Running a business means I have to do everything… so one thing that is typical is that there is never much stopping! The day ends usually the same way it starts, on Instagram or Pinterest, obsessing about beautiful things and design!”
What is your greatest achievement to date?
“Besides having my daughter, I would say it’s having the courage to change careers, go back to study (as my peers then soared ahead of me in my old career) and being willing to start again, knowing that this career (interior design) is my true passion. It’s something I will never regret, despite hard moments and I can’t really imagine where I’d be if I hadn’t made that leap.”
How did SDS help you to get started in the industry?
“Sydney Design School gave me the base skills and understanding of what it takes to be an Interior Designer and helped me realise not only what I could achieve through focus and hard work, but how much I did love interiors, by keeping the course interesting and fun at the same time.”
