Success Story –
Jess Orie
How has your experience at Sydney Design School helped you to get started in the industry?
“The two main things that helped most were the fast pace of our projects and the fact that we would cover all stages and aspects from concept design through to scheduling & documentation with each project. In the commercial industry you don’t have the luxury of time, decisions have to be made fairly quickly so you can proceed to the next step.
SDS gave us an advantage as we are able to manage our time efficiently and effectively by understanding the bigger picture compared to other institutes that break down the modules and study them individually. Being able to work in AutoCAD, SketchUp, InDesign and Photoshop was also a big positive.”
What is your greatest achievement to date?
“As far as design goes, any project that is completed feels like an achievement as you put a lot of yourself into your designs and you can’t wait to see them come to fruition.”
What does a typical day look like?
“Most days are pretty chaotic. It usually entails working on anything from 1-5 projects, going to a couple of meetings and the odd supplier presentation thrown in somewhere in between.”
