SketchUp for Interiors

Looking to extend your presentation skills? Create detailed 3D models of your interior designs using this intuitive and easy-to-learn program. Our SketchUp for Interiors course will take you step by step through a real two storey residential project. You’ll use the 3D Warehouse, the world’s largest online library, to easily import furniture and lighting to your model. To give your interior a stunning photo-realistic feel, we’ll introduce you to a rendering tool that adds surfaces, finishes and light.
You do not need any previous experience to complete this course as we will introduce you to the software step by step, starting with the basics. This course has been designed for Interior Decorators and Designers, Architects, Draftspeople, Builders, Landscape Architects, students studying architecture or interiors and those working in the construction industry.

- Wednesdays 9.30am – 4.30pm
- 19 March to 7 May 2025
- 6 weeks of study across a 8 week period including a 2 week break for school holidays
On Campus Evening Class
- Mon and Wed 6.15pm – 9.15pm
- 17 March to 7 May 2025
- 6 weeks of study across a 8 week period including a 2 week break for school holidays
Self Paced Online
- Study SketchUp with our online partner Interior Design Online here
- Start at anytime
- Be supported by Online Educators via email, phone or video call
- 4 month duration (3 hours per week)
- Accredited by Sydney Design School
What is the cost?
You can pay for this course in full or by instalments.
- Pay in total: $990 (GST free)
- Or pay by instalment: $190 deposit followed by 2 x $400 instalments (GST free)
- A 2% PayPal processing fee will be applied at checkout (inc GST).
- NOTE: You will need to purchase a subscription to SketchUp to complete your homework
What does the course cover?
- Toolbars, the interface, drawing commands and components
- Geo location, site shadows and terrain modelling
- Importing CAD files
- The 3D Warehouse and editing
- Applying styles and shadows to a model
- Photomatching
- Scenes, walk throughs and animation
- Sections
- Mapping curved surfaces
- Exporting drawings for printing
- Advanced presentation skills
- Rendering and textures
Is this course accredited?
On completion of this course you’ll receive a Statement of Attainment from Sydney Design School (RTO 91446) detailing the competency you have achieved. This vocational short course is written and developed by industry professionals to ensure our students study the most relevant and current content. The competency in this course is accredited by the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA), the national regulator for Australia’s vocational education and training sector.
You can credit this competency towards the Diploma of Interior Design or Advanced Diploma of Interior Design.
What equipment and software do I need?
On campus classes are delivered on a PC in our computer lab, all students will need a laptop or desktop computer to complete their homework. We recommend students use a PC as this computer is compatible with the software taught in this course. If you choose to use a MAC you will be using a different interface.
Your computer will need a dedicated graphics card. Read more about our Computer Requirements here. It assumed that you will have your own subscription to SketchUp at home or at work to ensure that you can practice your new skills after completing your short course.
